Semen Analysis Referrals
The semen analysis is a critical part of a couple’s initial evaluation. Obviously, the male partner is 50% of the fertility equation. Furthermore, male factor issues are just about as common as those affecting the female. Thus, it is important that a high quality analysis be performed, in a fertility center, where specially trained andrologists using specialized equipment are available. We perform the semen analysis with MicroCell counting chambers, using polarized light microscopy and reporting morphology (shape of the sperm, which is reflective of functionality) using the Kruger strict morphology standard, the optimum grading score, in our opinion. A MAR screening test for sperm antibodies is also included – important, but not done routinely at many centers.
We can also perform a variety of additional sperm testing such as:
- Retrograde Ejaculation Testing
- Sperm Antibody Screening
- Viability Screening
- Luecoscreen Analysis to check for white blood cells in the ejaculate
Results are faxed directly to your clinic within 3 days, and a trained andrologist is available to answer any questions you might have about the results.
We offer both sperm cyropreservation and egg freezing for your patients’ fertility preservation needs.
Male patients can either collect at home (please have then contact us for more details) or in our office. They are advised to have between 3-5 days of abstinence for their first appointment. We will be happy to follow up with you and/or discuss with your patient about how much sperm they should bank.
Female patients wanting to freeze their eggs should first come in and discuss their options with one of our physicians, as egg freezing is a much more involved process that takes much of the same preparation as a standard IVF cycle.
