Couples know when they’re ready for a family.
The longer you wait to seek help, the harder it may be. Couples should try on their own to get pregnant if you’re under 35 and just 6 months if you are 35 or older.
Many online sites say they can help you conceive. But listening to just a few of them and trying them out, can take up your whole fertility window. Women have only 12 chances a year (if they are ovulating properly). Add to that the time a miscarriage can take, which can be 3-6 months and you can see how rapidly each fertility window declines.
We suggest as soon as you know you want a family do these two things. Snapshot Fertility Assessment for the woman and a Semen Analysis for the man.
The Fertility Snapshot at Overlake Reproductive Health is an assessment of a woman’s current reproductive potential that includes the following:
- Blood work: AMH, LH*, FSH*, E2*
- Ultrasound to assess antral follicle count (AFC)
- Summary report of results reviewed by M.D.
Testing your ovarian reserve will give us a good idea of how much of a hurry you need to be in. If your egg supply is good, we can offer a less aggressive method to get you pregnant like naturally timed intercourse. But if your egg supply is low, and having your own biological child is important to you, we can get you on a faster track. Our fertility assessment includes an in person ultrasound with a fertility nurse and your results reviewed by one of our doctors. We can discover things like endometriosis, PCOS, Ovarian cysts, and uterine fibroids that may hinder your fertility.
Of equal importance is having your partner come in for a semen analysis. We see couples try for years without success only to eventually uncover there’s a male factor. This needs to be one of the very first tests. Having information on sperm quality tells us which method may work and which ones will not. There are things we can do to improve sperm quality so even if your numbers are low, we can hand pick a healthy sample.
The younger you are when you start, the better your chances of a healthy baby. Once you’ve completed these two assessments, you’ll have a better understanding of what it will take to get you pregnant. And you’ll know if you want to become a patient with us.
We keep the costs for these as low as possible so couples can get the help they need. Fertility Snapshot including the blood work and Ultrasound is $249. We do not run this through insurance as they would make us charge more.
A Semen Analysis is $253 out of pocket with some insurance offering a partial reimbursement. We examine these samples onsite in our lab where we are experts at working with sperm. Do not have this important test done outside of a fertility clinic.
After you have your results back, you can opt to become a new patient with us. We’ll use the information we’ve gathered to create a custom plan for the fastest, least invasive way to get you a healthy, viable pregnancy. We’ve helped thousands of people over the last 30+ years become parents so we hope you’ll choose to work with us. We look forward to helping you.
